Individuals who are encountering signs of hearing difficulties or suspect they have hearing loss should consider a hearing evaluation. This is especially important for those who struggle to hear conversations, face challenges in understanding speech in noisy settings, frequently request others to repeat themselves, or have tinnitus (ringing in the ears).

In general, it is recommended to undergo an initial hearing evaluation as an adult and then periodic evaluations as you age or if you notice changes in your hearing. For most adults, having a hearing evaluation every 1-3 years is advisable. However, if you already have hearing loss or other risk factors, more frequent evaluations may be suggested.

During a hearing evaluation, you will undergo various tests, including pure-tone audiometry to measure hearing sensitivity, speech audiometry to assess speech comprehension, middle ear assessments to evaluate eardrum and middle ear function, and potentially additional tests based on your specific needs.

Signs of hearing loss may encompass difficulty in understanding speech, frequent requests for others to repeat themselves, the need to increase the volume of the TV or radio, withdrawing from conversations or social situations, experiencing tinnitus, and struggling to hear in noisy environments.
